From a nutritionist and weight loss therapist's point of view, this is a diet program that is best suited to that area of the population who are in need of a convenient diet solution. One that is cost effective and delivers results without taking up much of your time.

It also suits those who have become overweight through eating a predominantly poor diet. This may be made up of processed meals (store bought ready meals and takeouts) coupled with drinking lots of unhealthy drinks like soda and other flavored, sugary drinks and snacking on all the usual unhealthy snacks that we know and love, such as candy bars, cakes, cookies, pie, pastries etc.

For these folks, the Nutrisystem diet is well suited because the meals are a combination of processed meals and fresh frozen main meals with a dessert, a breakfast and lunch, plus two additional snack bars that can be eaten between meals. There is also a healthy protein shake that is also there for between meals so dieters will find the taste and quality of the meals to be on par with what they are used to.

And because the dieter is able to eat something six times per day, the need to snack is eliminated, while the sweet tooth is catered for as well.

The diet program is not best suited to those folks who are used to eating home cooked meals and have gained weight purely through overeating or eating very large portions at mealtimes, while similarly snacking between meals and/or drinking sugary drinks too. While it is a great program for teaching your body and digestive system to get used to eating smaller portions, little and often, the quality of the meals will never come up to the standard of home cooked meals made from fresh ingredients.

For this reason, we would naturally not recommend this kind of diet to those people, chiefly because they are unlikely to enjoy the meals so much.

So before you decide to sign up with Nutrisystem, be honest with yourself and what you like and don't like to eat. If you think you'll like the kind of meals provided by this program, then by all means, go right ahead and get started, because you will lose weight as long as you stick to this diet and help yourself by doing some exercise each day to help boost your metabolism.

"But I can lose weight anyway by exercising every day. I don't need a diet to help me if I'm going to do that, right?"

This may be true for some people, but when a big part of your weight problem is based around eating too much and habitually snacking on bad foods, then often, just doing a little light exercise each day is NOT enough! Coupled with a Nutrisystem diet plan, on the other hand, exercise can really boost the effectiveness of your body's ability to lose weight.

Hi, thanks for your expert review. I started my diet with Nutrisystem just over 3 months ago. I opted for the Women regular plan and to be honest, found the food to be pretty OK. It wasn't gourmet stuff, but I liked it enough to keep the diet on for a full 3 months. In that time I lost 23 pounds, which I'm really happy about even though I know its not as much as some people, it was a pound more than I needed to lose so in my eyes, a job well done!

I was skeptical about this diet at first cause I'd heard some people say the food was terrible and tiny portions. But I was so desperate to lose weight I was willing to take the risk and went ahead four months ago. At first, I thought the meals were small but the food tasted pretty good. I was surprised at that! I spoke to customer services about the meal size and they told me I could add some proteins and vegetables to the main meals. I did that and wow, the meals were somthing I actually looked forward to eating. The weight started coming off pretty fast at first. Like I lost 8 pounds in the first 2 weeks! Then it slowed some and after 2 months, I'd lost a total of 18 pounds. I was over the moon! I still needed to lose more weightm, like another 6-9 pounds but I couldn't afford to keep going, so I quit. But it taught me a good lesson about eating smaller meals and still being satisfied, so I carried on eating like that and to this day I lost that extra weight and have not gained an ounce!

Nutrisystem for me was a great diet program. I spent two months on it last Fall and lost 19 pounds overall. The food was alright, didn't much like the meatloaf but the desserts were great. I didn't go with the extra proteins and veggies, just stayed with the basic diet. I didn't feel hungry at all. Drank loads of water and still do to this day. I'd recommend it to anyone!

I wasn't too impressed by the small meals and at first I was even thinking of quitting. I spoke to their support guy on the phone and he suggested I add some vegetables to the main meal and low fat yogurt to the breakfasts. It helped some and I got through my first month somehow. I lost 12 pounds in that time but I couldn't face any more so I quit early. I had to pay back the discount I got and they charged my credit card for the delivery too. Let that be a warning to anyone who is thinking of only doing one month then canceling!

I spent 4 months last summer on this diet last summer and lost over 30 pounds. i liked the food a lot, don't know why anyone would hate it, what's there not to like? I was good right up to Christmas then fell off the wagon I'd put myself on and through January gained almost 12 pounds. I signed up for another two months with NS this February and lost every pound I'd gained. Its my savior!

Christine

I have to agree with Wendy about the meals being on the small side. I was used to eating really big meals, like I'm talking my plate would have food piled so high that it sometimes rolled off the side! It was a big wakeup call to unpack my first Nutrisystem main meal. It was like a starter plate! Anyways, I spoke with a nice lady in support who talked me through adding some veggies and how I should work with the diet and try and teach my body to get used to eating less if I really wanted to lose weight. It was tough at first. I don't mind admitting it! But things got better after that first week and I got into the smaller meals and started to enjoy the meals a whole load more. That was all 10 months ago and it taught me well, cause I have never gone back to my old eating habits and kept the figure I worked so hard to get back then.

I can handle small meals and even tolerate the processed food in them, but I don't like the protein shakes at all! I know they're good for you and all, but why can't they just incorporate more protein into the meals? They'd be more satisfying, just as healthy and remove the need to have to endure drinking those things! Not only that, But I keep hearing it's better to eat fewer meals in a 24 hour period because it forces the body to burn more fat as you get hungry. I'd be quite happy to eat a hearty breakfast then go until dinnertime until my next meal, just drinking water in that time. Just my two cents! Thanks.
